The Truck / Trailer Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy trucks, trailers, and related equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. The mechanic performs inspections, preventive maintenance, and necessary repairs in accordance with manufacturer standards and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults in trucks and trailers.
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, brake adjustments, and filter replacements.
- Repair or replace defective parts such as engines, transmissions, axles, suspensions, brakes, and steering systems.
- Conduct inspections to ensure vehicles comply with roadworthiness and safety standards.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and other mechanical works when required.
- Maintain accurate service records and complete job cards for all repairs performed.
- Operate diagnostic tools and follow technical manuals or schematics.
- Ensure the cleanliness and safety of the workshop environment.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and drivers regarding vehicle condition and required repairs.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Professional Diploma or Certificate in Automotive Mechanics, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a truck, trailer, or heavy equipment mechanic.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, suspensions, and electrical systems.
- Ability to use modern diagnostic tools and mechanical instruments.
- Good understanding of preventive maintenance and vehicle safety standards.
- Physically fit and capable of handling heavy parts and tools.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred:
- Experience in European truck brands (e.g., Scania, Volvo, MAN, DAF, Mercedes-Benz).
- Holder of a valid driver’s license (Category C/CE) is an advantage.
